Sometimes you fancy a little company, but not the organising that can come with it. Finding a date everyone can do. Deciding where to go. Wondering whether you’ve got enough energy for a whole afternoon out. What you’d really like is simpler: somewhere to sit with a warm cup, see another face and let the conversation find its own pace.
That’s the thought behind Fill Up Friday. On Friday 9 October, there’ll be space in our space for tea or coffee, a sweet treat and company, without an agenda. If that sounds like your kind of Friday, you can book your place here.
We often save time together for something: a birthday, a catch-up long overdue, a plan that needs a name. But there’s something lovely about company that doesn’t ask quite so much of us. A cuppa doesn’t need a reason. Neither does wanting to spend a little of your day around other people.
Perhaps you’ve spent much of the week working on your own. Perhaps you’ve been busy with people but haven’t had much time simply to sit with them. Or perhaps you just like the idea of a Friday pause before the weekend begins.
You don’t have to arrive with news, a good story or a friend beside you. Coming alone is welcome. So is coming with someone. You can chat, listen, or join in as much or as little as feels right.
Sometimes it’s nice to have a small task alongside a conversation. Something to look at or make while the words come and go. At Fill Up Friday, you can spend some of your time making a candle, filling a vessel of up to 250ml or choosing a tin, with a scent from the day’s selection.
There’s also the option to refill your soap bottles. If you choose to make or refill, you’ll have your candle or refilled bottles to take home: a practical part of the afternoon that carries on being useful afterwards.
But making isn’t the price of belonging here. You’re just as welcome to come for the cuppa and company. There’s nothing you need to produce, and no pressure to perform.
Two hours set aside for a little company, something sweet and the option to make. Come as you are, whether you’ve plenty to say or would rather listen for a while.
